Types of parasites in aquariums that cause disease

Cryptococcosis

Before raising fish, use copper sulfate solution of 8mg/L concentration to bathe the fish for 20-30 minutes. This can be quite effective in preventing diseases from arising. When detecting parasites in the aquarium that cause fish disease, use a mixture of Copper sulfate and Iron (II) sulfate at a ratio of 5:2, concentration of 0.7mg/L sprinkled throughout the aquarium.

Myxospora infection

when sick due to parasites in the aquarium name Myxosporea Use Copper sulfate concentration 0.5-0.6mg/L sprinkled around the aquarium. Use a sporicide concentration of 3-4mg/L continuously for 3 days.

Wheel infection

When parasites in the aquarium attack, sick fish will have a pale color. The body of the fish has a lot of milky slime, the tail and fins are worn out, swimming without intention, the body rubs against the grass as if it’s itchy.

Before raising fish, use live lime to disinfect the pond. When the fry grow to about 2cm, then every 67m², the water surface is 1m deep, put 15kg of oval leaves. Change every 7-10 days.

It is possible to prevent parasitic diseases in the aquarium caused by wheel worms. When disease occurs, a mixture of Copper sulfate and Iron (II) sulfate can be used at a ratio of 5:2, concentration of 0.7mg/L sprinkled throughout the aquarium. Every 67m² of water surface, 1m deep, use 30kg of water to cook oval leaves around the pond. It has the effect of disinfecting the wheel.

Fish lice disease

Aquarium parasites of the genus Argulus and Alitropus are ivory-white, shaped like aphids, so they are also known as fish lice, or fish bugs, ticks, can be seen with the naked eye.

Parasites in the aquarium cling to the fish’s skin, sucking the blood of the fish, and destroying the skin, causing ulcers to create conditions for other organisms to attack. Apply the method of prevention and control of anchorworms or use potassium permanganate (KMnO4) concentration of 10 g/m3 for 1 hour.

Anchor disease

The causative agent is an aquarium parasite called Lernaea, an anchor-like form, with a body length of 8-16 mm, rod-like, with an anchor-like nodule embedded deep into the fish’s body.

Infected fish have poor appetite, are thin and weak, and around the place of infection are conditions for bacteria to invade and grow. The disease causes great harm to fingerlings and fry. The parasite usually parasitizes the skin, gills, fins, eyes … on ornamental fish.

It is necessary to check before stocking, if parasites are detected in the aquarium, use potassium permanganate at a dose of 10-25 g/m3 to bathe for 1 hour. Treatment of disease can be used by using neem leaves (the neem tree), the dosage is 0.3 – 0.5 kg/m3 of water. Or you can use Hadaclean according to the manufacturer’s instructions.

Single host fluke disease

Caused by a 16 hook fluke (Dactylogyrus) or 18 hooks (Gyrodactylus) parasite in the aquarium that attaches to the skin and gills of the fish. Infected fish often have poor respiration because the gills and skin secrete a lot of oily fluid, the skin and gills of the parasite will ulcerate, creating conditions for bacteria, fungi and some other microorganisms to cause disease.

Chemicals can be used as an anchorworm treatment or Hadaclean used at the dosage recommended by the manufacturer.

How to handle aquarium parasites?

Use chemicals

If you can already see the parasites in an adult aquarium, you can try catching them with forceps. Then apply red medicine to the wound of the fish.

If there is an aquarium parasite , still have to promptly move the fish to a healthier aquatic environment. This prevents the parasite from attaching to the host. Usually after a few days the parasites in the aquarium will die. At this point you can also clean the aquarium thoroughly, removing all parasites.

You can also try putting the medicine in the aquarium. Use Trichlorfon 90% with standard 0.25-0.3g/m3. Or add 0.5 – 1g of Trichlorfon 90% crystals to 10kg of water. Soak the fish for 10-15 minutes. Use the drug continuously 3-4 times.

You can also use 0.01g Lindane 0.5% to be added to 10kg and then bathe the fish for 10-15 minutes. Or use 0.5g Potassium Permanganate dissolved in 50kg water. Bathe the fish for 30-60 minutes. Then drop it into the changed water tank.

Filter the water to prevent parasites in the aquarium

Want to reduce aquarium parasites, in addition to the above methods, you should also raise fish scientifically. Improve the resistance of fish body. Thus, the probability of aquarium parasites is also reduced.

Installing a good water filtration system for the aquarium, maintaining good water quality for a long time, providing the fish with a good water environment is extremely necessary.
